Shedeur Sanders Returns To Colorado, Teaches Buffs QBs How To Watch Film

Shedeur Sanders made a trip back to Boulder this offseason, and he didn’t show up just to visit. The Cleveland Browns quarterback sat down with Colorado’s quarterback room and broke down film with the players who are have now taken over his old position.

Shedeur Sanders Breaks Down Film With Buffs QBs

A video from Well Off Media captured Sanders walking the Colorado quarterbacks through a meeting room session, pointing out exactly what separates a good read from a costly mistake. He used real scenarios to show what happens when a quarterback hesitates or guesses instead of trusting what the film tells him.

“If you chose to go to this side, and you didn’t choose to play up top, right?… You’ll be stuck with the ball in your hand,” Shedeur Sanders said to the group.

He explained that playing without that awareness leaves a quarterback open to getting hit for “not doing what it says to do.” The point was simple. Film study isn’t optional homework. It’s the difference between protecting yourself in the pocket and taking a hit you could have avoided.

Why Anticipation Starts Before The Snap

Sanders also stressed that reading a defense in real time starts long before the ball is snapped. Without studying tendencies ahead of time, he said it’s impossible to “anticipate anything” or “play in rhythm.”

“If you don’t know what route he’s running or it’s a horrible route, it’s kind of like you setting yourself up for failure,” Sanders added.

He pushed the quarterbacks to stay locked in on their receivers, telling them to “be disciplined on the receiver” so they can anticipate pressure and break quicker. As Sanders put it, “you’ll never have the right reads if you can’t run the right route.”

Shedeur Sanders spent time with the Buffs’ offense and offensive coordinator Brennan Marrion during the visit, continuing a connection to his father Deion Sanders’ program that’s drawn attention from fans throughout the offseason.

The trip comes as Sanders enters his second season with the Browns, with coaches reportedly noticing growth in his footwork and decision-making this offseason.

For Colorado, getting hands-on instruction from a quarterback who once ran that same offense is a resource most programs don’t have. The Buffaloes are looking to bounce back after missing a bowl game, and a clearer approach to film study could play a part in that turnaround.
