Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders earned far more off the field than on it during his rookie NFL season, according to figures reported by Front Office Sports. While his NFL contract provided a little over $1 million in annual salary, his earnings from group licensing deals pushed his total rookie-year income to nearly $19 million.
Shedeur Sanders Earned $18.7 Million
According to Front Office Sports, Shedeur Sanders received an average annual salary of $1.005 million as part of his rookie contract with the Cleveland Browns.
However, the biggest portion of his earnings came from group licensing income. That category includes revenue generated through jersey sales, trading cards, video games, collectibles, and other officially licensed NFL products that feature players.
Front Office Sports reported that Sanders earned $17.7 million from group licensing income during his rookie season.
When combined with his NFL salary, Sanders’ total earnings reached approximately $18.7 million.
The numbers highlight the significant commercial value Sanders brought into the league. Even before entering the NFL, he had built one of the largest personal brands in college football.
His popularity grew during his time at Jackson State and later at Colorado, where he played under his father, Pro Football Hall of Famer and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders. Throughout his college career, Sanders became one of the most recognizable players in the country.
That visibility translated into strong demand for licensed merchandise after he entered the NFL. Group licensing revenue is distributed through agreements that allow companies to use player names, images, and likenesses on officially licensed products sold to fans.
For many NFL players, salary remains the largest source of football-related income. In Sanders’ case, the licensing revenue dramatically outpaced his contract earnings.
The reported figures show that licensing income accounted for more than 94 percent of his total rookie-year earnings. His NFL salary represented a much smaller share of the overall total.
