Deion Sanders’ Colorado’s 2027 recruiting class just got a major boost after four-star defensive lineman Ben’Jarvius Shumaker flipped his commitment from Ole Miss to the Colorado Buffaloes on Tuesday, June 23.
The highly rated Mississippi prospect is now the highest-ranked commitment in Colorado’s 2027 class and the program’s fourth four-star pledge.
The Flip Happened One Day After Shutting Down His Recruitment
Shumaker had been committed to Ole Miss since March 6 and took his final official visit to Colorado over the weekend. After returning home on Sunday, he posted to his Instagram Story on Monday that he had shut down his recruitment and planned to remain with the Rebels.
One day later, everything changed.
On Tuesday, Shumaker announced he was flipping his commitment to Deion Sanders’ program, writing on social media: “Be different!! #Staytune #WhyNot.”
Deion Sanders Lands a Top-100 Prospect
The 6-foot-3, 270-pound Shumaker is ranked as the No. 89 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting class, the No. 9 defensive lineman in the nation, and the No. 3 player in Mississippi. He also ranks No. 76 in the latest USA TODAY Sports High School Football Composite rankings.
Shumaker is coming off an impressive junior season in 2025, recording 24 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks.
His commitment makes him Colorado’s highest-rated recruit in the 2027 class and the fourth four-star player to pledge to the Buffaloes.
Colorado’s Four-Star Recruiting Class Continues to Grow
Shumaker joins three other four-star commitments in Colorado’s 2027 class.
Offensive tackle Li’Marcus Jones committed to the Buffaloes on May 24 after choosing Colorado over Mississippi State and Purdue. The 6-foot-5 lineman played both left and right tackle during his junior season while also contributing on defense, where he finished with 37 tackles, six tackles for loss, and three sacks. He is ranked among the nation’s top offensive tackle prospects in the 2027 class.
Safety Gabe Jenkins committed to Colorado on May 20 following his official visit to Boulder. The 6-foot-2 defensive back is ranked as one of the top safeties in the country and one of the top overall prospects in the 2027 class. His combination of size, athleticism, and versatility made him one of Colorado’s earliest priority targets in the secondary.
Quarterback Andre Adams became the Buffaloes’ first four-star commitment when he pledged on April 14. The dual-threat quarterback from Antioch, Tennessee, threw for 3,418 yards, 35 touchdowns, and one interception during the 2025 season. He also rushed for 855 yards and 13 touchdowns while completing 71% of his passes. Adams set a Tennessee state record with 714 total yards in a single game.
With Shumaker now on board, Deion Sanders’ program has 16 commitments in its 2027 recruiting class, which is currently ranked No. 46 nationally and fifth in the Big 12. His decision also marks another recruiting win for Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes as they continue adding nationally ranked talent to the program.
