Why Deion Sanders Keeps Opting Out of EA Sports College Football Game

Fans looking forward to playing as Deion Sanders in EA Sports College Football 27 will once again notice the Colorado head coach is missing from the game. As the latest edition prepares for its worldwide release on July 9, Deion Sanders has once again chosen not to have his likeness included.

His decision continues a pattern from previous editions, making this the third straight year that players will not find Coach Prime on the sidelines in the popular college football video game.

Deion Sanders Skips The 2026 EA Sports Game

Deion Sanders is one of seven head coaches who declined to be featured in EA Sports College Football 27. The other coaches who opted out are Mario Cristobal of Miami, Bill Belichick of North Carolina, Kirk Ferentz of Iowa, Bronco Mendenhall of Utah State, Blake Anderson of Southern Mississippi, and Neal Brown of North Texas.

The number of coaches opting out has dropped compared to last year’s game, when 12 head coaches chose not to participate. Sanders, Belichick, Cristobal, Ferentz, and Mendenhall were also absent from the previous edition.

While Coach Prime has not publicly explained his latest decision, he has previously been selective about licensing agreements and how his personal brand is used. His absence from the game follows that same approach.

Even though players cannot select Deion Sanders as Colorado’s head coach, his impact is still visible in the game. One of the five cornerback templates in the Road to Glory mode is based on his playing style.

Players creating a defensive back can choose the “bump and run” archetype, which is modeled after Deion Sanders. The other available templates are inspired by Rod Woodson, Antonio Cromartie, Aqib Talib, and Richard Sherman.

That inclusion gives fans a chance to experience a style of play closely associated with Sanders, even though his coaching likeness is not part of the game.

EA Sports College Football 27 launches worldwide on July 9, while MVP+ members receive early access beginning July 2. Colorado fans hoping to lead the Buffaloes with Deion Sanders on the virtual sidelines, however, will have to wait at least another year to see if that changes.
