Trade rumors involving Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders continue to gain attention, with the Dallas Cowboys emerging as a possible destination. While no deal has been announced, recent reports indicate that NFL teams have contacted the Browns about Sanders’ availability. That has fueled fresh speculation about whether the young quarterback could eventually land in Dallas.
Shedeur Sanders Linked to Cowboys in Trade Rumors
The latest speculation began after Pro Football & Sports Network analyst Cooper Kleinberg suggested the Cowboys could be a logical destination for Shedeur Sanders. According to the analysis, Dallas could acquire the second-year quarterback at a reasonable cost and allow him to develop behind franchise quarterback Dak Prescott.
The discussion followed comments from ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Rizzo, who said the Browns have received inquiries about Sanders.
“There are talks, ongoing calls about the availability of Shedeur Sanders,” Rizzo said. “I’m going to say right now, for the record, I don’t think the four quarterbacks are going to camp on July 28. … Nothing is imminent, but the calls are being made.”
At this point, there is no indication that a trade is close. Rizzo also made it clear that while discussions are taking place, nothing is imminent.
The Cowboys connection has attracted extra attention because of Sanders’ family history with the franchise. His father, Deion Sanders, played five seasons in Dallas after signing with the team in 1995. During that span, he helped the Cowboys win Super Bowl XXX, earned four Pro Bowl selections, and later built a Hall of Fame career.
Meanwhile, Shedeur Sanders has enjoyed a productive stretch since entering the NFL. After slipping to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, he earned a spot in Cleveland’s starting lineup. He finished the season with 1,400 passing yards and seven touchdown passes while also receiving a Pro Bowl replacement selection.
Away from football, Sanders graduated from the University of Colorado and set an NFL Players Association single-season group licensing record by generating $17.7 million in licensing revenue.
The Browns have continued to maintain that their quarterback competition remains open under head coach Todd Monken. Sanders is competing with Deshaun Watson for the starting role ahead of training camp.
Sanders recently praised Monken’s approach to leading the team.
“He brings a new vibe,” Shedeur Sanders said, adding that the coach has brought “new energy” to the organization.
For now, the Cowboys rumors remain speculation. Cleveland has not announced plans to trade Shedeur Sanders, and no agreement has been reported. As training camp approaches, attention will remain on whether the Browns keep their current quarterback group intact or decide to make a move.
