Shilo Sanders remains involved in a complex bankruptcy case that recently included another attempt by Mercedes-Benz Financial Services to repossess his luxury SUV.
Court filings showed that Mercedes-Benz sought approval to take back Shilo Sanders’ 2023 Mercedes-Benz after alleging he missed payments between February and May 2026. The company claimed Sanders owed $9,170 in past-due payments and still had a remaining balance of $72,155 on the vehicle, which was valued at approximately $75,900.
However, recent reports indicate the company has now withdrawn that request, marking the second time a repossession effort involving the same vehicle has been dropped.
Shilo Sanders’ Mercedes-Benz Dispute
Mercedes-Benz Financial Services filed a notice on June 5 withdrawing its request to repossess the vehicle from Sanders.
The company did not publicly explain why it backed away from the request. Reports noted that the move likely means the outstanding balance cited in court filings was paid, though no official confirmation has been provided.
This follows a similar situation in April 2025. At that time, Mercedes-Benz also sought permission from the bankruptcy court to repossess the SUV after an alleged payment default. That request was withdrawn less than a week later.
Shilo Sanders purchased the vehicle in May 2023 through a monthly payment agreement when the SUV reportedly carried a cash value of about $135,000.
Because Shilo Sanders is currently involved in Chapter 7 bankruptcy proceedings, creditors cannot simply seize assets. Federal bankruptcy rules impose an automatic stay that temporarily halts debt collection efforts. As a result, Mercedes-Benz had to seek court approval before attempting to repossess the vehicle.
While the Mercedes-Benz matter has temporarily eased, Sanders’ broader financial challenges remain unresolved.
His bankruptcy filing stems largely from a legal dispute connected to a 2015 incident involving former school security guard John Darjean. Darjean sued Sanders and later obtained an $11.89 million default judgment after Sanders failed to appear for trial in 2022.
Shilo Sanders filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2023 and is seeking relief from that debt. Darjean, however, is challenging the effort and argues the judgment should not be discharged through bankruptcy because it involved what court filings describe as a “willful and malicious injury.”
A trial addressing that issue is scheduled for August 31, 2026. The outcome could have a significant impact on Sanders’ financial future.
Another Lawsuit Recently Dismissed
In a separate development, law firm Barnes & Thornburg LLP recently dismissed without prejudice a lawsuit that alleged Sanders owed $164,285 in unpaid legal fees related to bankruptcy and personal injury matters.
No public reason was provided for the dismissal. Because the case was dismissed without prejudice, the firm retains the option to refile the claim in the future.
For now, the latest Mercedes-Benz repossession effort has been withdrawn, allowing Shilo Sanders to keep the vehicle. Still, his bankruptcy proceedings and the pending dispute over the $11.89 million judgment remain active as several key legal matters continue to move through court.
