Shedeur Sanders Opens Up About Feeling Alone During Browns Offseason

Shedeur Sanders is preparing for his second NFL season with the Cleveland Browns, but he recently shared that the transition to the professional level was one of the toughest periods of his career. In a video posted on his YouTube channel titled Shedeur Sanders: A Short Film, the young quarterback reflected on feeling isolated during his rookie year while adjusting to a new environment and competing for a role on the team.

The film offers a personal look at Shedeur Sanders’ mindset after a challenging first NFL season and explains how one teammate helped him regain his confidence.

Shedeur Sanders Reflects on His Rookie Experience

Around the middle of the documentary, Shedeur Sanders described the pressure he faced during his first season in Cleveland. Despite remaining confident in his work ethic, he admitted there was a period when he briefly lost belief because of the environment around him.

“I know within myself what Imma do, and I know how dedicated I am to being great,” Sanders said. “So, everything else don’t matter because I know what it takes to get to that point, to get to that feeling, to have that confidence.”

He continued by explaining that things changed after arriving in the NFL.

“But it was like for a second, and I lost that. And I can know that I look back and for a second I definitely lost it. It’s just being in the environment without anybody initially you could lean on.”

Sanders said that feeling alone was very different from what he had experienced throughout his football career, where he was used to having trusted people around him every day.

Tony Brown Earned Sanders’ Respect

Shedeur Sanders credited former Browns defensive back Tony Brown for helping him through that difficult period.

“That’s how me and [Tony] got cool,” Sanders said. “It was like you going from a situation in a period to where you have that factor every day to everybody on their own.”

According to Shedeur Sanders, Brown stepped in when he needed guidance while others simply observed from a distance.

“Then he was kind of leading me and helping me figure myself out while everybody else is just watching.”

He also explained why that experience changed the way he views support inside a team.

“So that’s why my respect for a lot is gone cause it’s like everybody supports you from afar. But when it’s daily, when it’s conversations, when it’s things that could actually help you, ain’t nobody there.”

Brown later left the Browns after being released during the preseason, but Sanders made it clear that the impact he had during that stretch remains important to him.

Looking Ahead to the 2026 Season

Shedeur Sanders’ rookie campaign came after an unexpected slide to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He entered a crowded quarterback room and spent much of the season waiting for opportunities.

When he eventually saw game action, he played behind an offensive line that struggled with injuries and inconsistency. His rookie numbers included 1,400 passing yards, seven touchdown passes, and 10 interceptions.

Despite those challenges, Sanders said he has moved forward with a stronger mindset and no longer feels the need to rely on outside validation.

“I know you feel me when I display myself in my best form this year to the world,” Shedeur Sanders said.

“It’s like I don’t need all that external stuff, I don’t need new friends, I don’t need anything new. I’m fine with the basic chill system that I have now because I know this will take me where I need to go.”

The Browns enter the 2026 season with a quarterback competition still to be decided. Shedeur Sanders continues working under new head coach Todd Monken while competing for a larger role.

His documentary provides a rare glimpse into the personal side of his rookie season, showing both the challenges he faced and the confidence he believes will carry him into the next chapter of his NFL career.
