When asked how he’s adjusting to life away from his family during a recent vlog on his YouTube channel, Shilo Sanders didn’t hesitate. “I love it,” he said plainly. The response was direct and clear. He’s enjoying his independence.
Shilo went on to explain that this isn’t his first time away from home. “I was on my own when I went to South Carolina,” he recalled, referencing his college days before transferring to Jackson State.
That first experience of separation gave him a sense of freedom he clearly valued. He even admitted he didn’t want to return. “I ain’t even want to come back for holidays ‘cuz I was so happy to be out. I was so happy to be out of the house.”
His words paint a clear picture of someone who thrives on personal space and self-direction. While many expected the NFL jump to be a tough emotional shift, Shilo’s comments suggest he’s built for it, and he’s embracing the change fully.
New Bonds and Support From Internet Aunties
Shilo admits that not having his family around feels different, but in a good way. “Not having my family next to me is different, but it’s not something that I haven’t done before, so it’s not that bad,” he said during the vlog.
He quickly made it clear that he’s not lonely. “I have my own stuff, so it’s cool. It’s cool just being on my own.”
For Shilo, independence means growth. He says the distance gives him room to build new connections. “Town up here, a lot of new people,” he said, hinting at how Tampa has become fertile ground for new relationships. And since he is as extroverted as it gets, he finds new connections very easily.
Shilo also noted he’s not lacking in support. “I got internet aunties across the globe. I got family everywhere, especially here in Tampa,” he said with confidence.
That support system, even if it’s digital or adopted, means something. “I got a whole new family out here in Tampa, y’all.”
Shilo may be away from home, but he’s far from alone. With a new city behind him and fresh relationships forming, he’s embracing every step of this new chapter.
