Two years on from Snow’s birth, the Deiondra Sanders and Jacquees story keeps finding new ways to stay in the news cycle. Most of it has come from Deiondra’s side, in long posts and podcast sit-downs where she has walked fans through the engagement, the split, and the co-parenting fight that followed. Jacquees has mostly stayed out of it.
That changed in a recent interview with Baller Alert, where the singer was asked directly about Deion Sanders. He didn’t dodge it, and he didn’t dress it up.
What came out was less messy than fans were probably hoping for, and somehow more revealing. There was no falling out with Coach Prime, according to Jacquees. There was never enough of a relationship there to fall out of.
Jacquees Is Glad Snow Got a Grandfather In Prime
The first question was the softball. How cool is it that your son’s grandfather is one of the greatest athletes who ever lived?
Jacquees answered it straight, and the framing is where it got interesting. “I mean, I think it’s cool for him,” he said. “Those the benefits that he get because I don’t get none of it.”
That one line does a lot of work. He isn’t claiming a piece of the Prime Time name for himself. Whatever doors open for Snow because of who his grandfather is, Jacquees is treating those as Snow’s doors and nobody else’s.
The respect is real, though, and it goes back well before any of this. “I grew up, you know, knowing who Deion Sanders was. Always respected him as a athlete and a man,” he said. “Somebody black that was always showing us a way for black folks and doing different things.”
“So, I love the fact that my baby gets those things, but it’s all for him.”
For a man who has played the villain in almost every public telling of this saga, that is a measured place to land. Then came the follow-up.
Jacquees Never Bonded With Deion Sanders
Asked whether things had gotten weird between him and Deion after everything blew up, Jacquees pushed back on the premise itself. He said the relationship is pretty much what it has always been.
Then he went back to a story from before Snow existed. During his Land of the Free run, he reached out about coming down to shoot a video while Coach Prime was building his program at Jackson State.
“I remember I was asking him like bro I can come down there to Jackson to shoot a video with y’all and stuff down there. He was like, yeah bro, of course,” Jacquees recalled.
That was it. One favor, granted easily, nothing built on top of it afterward. “So now that I got a son with his daughter, um, yeah, we it was never nothing where I was like hitting him up anyway,” he said.
Which brings us to the part that is going to travel the furthest.
“We was never interacting anyway. So it’s like I don’t think… We never had like that type of bond. Got where it’s like, you know what I’m saying? Hey, call my phone. I never had his number.”
Fans have spent the better part of a year assuming there was a fallout in there somewhere, some moment where Coach Prime looked at his daughter’s ex and cut him off for good. Jacquees is telling everyone there was nothing to cut. No number saved, no check-ins, no bond a breakup could have damaged in the first place.
Deion has said close to nothing publicly about any of this, which stands out for a man who has an opinion on everything else and a camera rolling for most of it. Deiondra has carried the whole story by herself. Now Jacquees has put his piece on the table, and the drama everyone assumed was sitting between him and Prime turns out to have never really been there.
The one person actually caught in the middle is still a toddler. He gets to read all of it one day.
