Shilo Sanders spent two seasons playing at Colorado, and it seemed like he genuinely embraced the cooler climate. He even enjoyed snowboarding in his free time. But now he’s singing a different tune about the weather.
Despite joking about Florida’s intense humidity, saying it feels like stepping out of a hotel and needing a shower, Shilo claims he actually prefers it over the chilly weather in Colorado.
Shilo Sanders Worried Florida Heat Would Be Exhausting
When he was preparing to train with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Shilo Sanders dreaded one thing: the Florida heat. More specifically, the humidity.
On May 2, Shilo pulled up to the Colorado Buffaloes facility, linking up with old teammates and getting in some early training.
But when asked what he was most concerned about, he went straight ahead to talk about the air down South. “It’s not really the heat, it’s the humidity,” Shilo told the cameraman. “You walk out the hotel and it’s literally just…you feel like you gotta take a shower.”
And honestly, he wasn’t exaggerating. Boulder, Colorado, sits at a breezy 5,400 feet with cool, dry air, ideal for pushing your body without overheating. But Tampa Bay? It’s a 90-degree sauna with air so thick it feels like a weighted blanket. By the time you jog out for warmups, your jersey’s already drenched.
Funny enough, though, Shilo has since changed his tune. He’s not just handling the Florida weather now; he’s starting to prefer it over Colorado.
Shilo Sanders Prefers Florida Heat
Now that he has been training in Tampa for quite some time, Shilo Sanders has had a full change of heart. What once felt like suffocating humidity now feels like a competitive advantage.
“Florida heat, baby, it’s not that bad, bro. Honestly, like, my breathing feels better than it did at Colorado,” Shilo shared recently with a relaxed confidence that only comes from firsthand experience.
He went on to reflect on how much tougher the thin, dry air of Colorado made his workouts feel. “Like today, if we did what we did here in Colorado, bro I’d have died,” he said, after an intense conditioning session.
At Colorado’s 5,400-foot elevation, oxygen is harder to come by, which often leaves athletes gasping during intense sessions. In contrast, Florida’s warm, humid air may feel heavy at first, but it allows for fuller breaths and a more comfortable workout rhythm.
“The heat is not even that hot,” Shilo added. “It makes you like, comfortable. Like, it makes you really like warmed up comfortable.”
Turns out, Florida’s climate may not just be bearable. It might actually be better. For Shilo Sanders, the Sunshine State is starting to feel like the perfect place to grind.
