“I Never Had Deion’s Number”: Jacquees Gets Brutally Honest About His Relationship With Coach Prime

When Deiondra Sanders and Jacquees welcomed their son Snow in August 2024, on Deion Sanders’s own birthday no less, the two families looked permanently tied together. The engagement had come a month earlier at the baby shower. Then came the split, and a year of Deiondra telling her side in long posts and podcast sit-downs while Jacquees said almost nothing.

That silence broke in a recent interview, when the singer was finally asked the question fans had been circling for months: where does he actually stand with Coach Prime?

His answer landed differently than anyone expected. There was no fallout to describe and no blowup to walk through, because by his telling there was never enough of a relationship there for a breakup to damage.

Jacquees Is Glad Snow’s Grandfather is Prime

Before getting anywhere near that, the interviewer started somewhere safer, asking how cool it must be for Snow to have one of the greatest athletes who ever lived as a grandfather.

Jacquees didn’t hesitate, though the way he framed his answer said plenty. “I mean, I think it’s cool for him,” he said. “Those the benefits that he get because I don’t get none of it.”

That distinction is the whole thing. Whatever doors the Prime Time name opens for Snow, Jacquees is treating them as Snow’s doors and nobody else’s.

The respect underneath it is real, though, and he made a point of noting it goes back long before he ever met Deiondra. “I grew up, you know, knowing who Deion Sanders was. Always respected him as a athlete and a man,” he said. “Somebody black that was always showing us a way for black folks and doing different things.”

“So, I love the fact that my baby gets those things, but it’s all for him.”

Coming from a man who has played the villain in nearly every public telling of this story, that was a measured place to land. The follow-up question is where it got interesting.

Jacquees Never Bonded With Deion Sanders

When asked whether things between him and Deion had turned awkward after everything came apart, Jacquees pushed back on the premise rather than the question. The relationship, he said, is roughly what it has always been.

To explain what he meant by that, he reached back to a moment from before Snow existed. During his Land of the Free run, he reached out to Deion about coming down to shoot a video while Prime was building his program at Jackson State.

“I remember I was asking him like bro I can come down there to Jackson to shoot the video with y’all and stuff down there. He was like yeah bro of course,” Jacquees recalled.

That, by his own account, was the extent of it. One favor, granted without fuss, and nothing built on top of it in the years since. “So now that I got a son with his daughter, um, yeah, we it was never nothing where I was like hitting him up anyway,” he said.

Then came the line that is going to travel the furthest.

“We was never interacting anyway. So it’s like I don’t think… We never had like that type of bond. Got where it’s like, you know what I’m saying? Hey, call my phone. I never had his number.”

For the better part of a year, fans have filled that blank in with a fallout, imagining some moment where Coach Prime looked at his daughter’s ex and quietly shut the door. Jacquees is telling everyone there was no door. No number saved, no check-ins, nothing a breakup could have broken.

Deion, meanwhile, has said close to nothing publicly about any of this, which stands out for a man who has an opinion on everything else and a camera rolling for most of it. Deiondra has carried the whole story by herself. Now that Jacquees has finally put his piece on the table, the feud everyone assumed was sitting between the two men turns out to have never been there at all.

The only person genuinely caught in the middle of it is still a toddler. He gets to read every word of this one day.
