In a personal message, Deion Sanders described how he responded after receiving the news from his doctor.
Deion Sanders Explains His Surgery Decision
The Buffs Head Coach admitted the recommendation for surgery initially caught him off guard.
“When my doc told me I needed surgery, I’ll be honest—it shook me,” said Deion Sanders.
After processing the diagnosis, Sanders said he focused on understanding his options before making a decision.
“But I decided what came next. I locked in. I learned, asked questions, and chose da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery. For me, it was the answer, and I’m thankful this technology exists,” he added.
His comments centered on his personal experience and the process he followed before choosing the procedure. Sanders did not encourage others to make the same decision. Instead, he explained why he believed it was the right choice for his own situation.
He also took time to recognize the medical professionals who cared for him throughout the process.
“And to the doctors and care teams who took care of me and had my back every step of the way: thank you,” said Coach Prime.
Sanders has remained open about his health journey in recent weeks. Earlier this year, he revealed that doctors diagnosed him with bladder cancer before he underwent surgery. His medical team later confirmed that the procedure was successful and that he is now cancer-free.
Since then, Sanders has continued sharing updates as he prepares for the upcoming college football season. His latest remarks provide additional insight into the decision-making process behind his treatment while expressing gratitude to the doctors and care teams who supported him during his recovery.
