Shilo Sanders has an unusual confession about the holiday season. The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ safety once revealed he’s not exactly thrilled about Christmas trees, and yes, he’s blaming his legendary father for it.
Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders apparently played a role in shaping his son’s less-than-festive attitude toward the iconic holiday decoration. Growing up in the Sanders household meant experiencing life differently than most kids, and that included how the family approached Christmas traditions.
Shilo Sanders Reveals The Sanders Family Christmas Philosophy
Shilo Sanders painted a picture of Deion Sanders that might surprise fans who know Coach Prime for his flashy lifestyle and designer everything. According to Shilo, Christmas was the one time of year when his normally frugal father would actually loosen the purse strings.
“My dad, he spent the whole year being cheap, so on Christmas it was the time you could actually get what you want. I’m not a tree guy. Just give me the presents,” Shilo explained.
The Colorado safety made it clear where his priorities lie when December rolls around. Decorations? Unnecessary. Ornaments and twinkling lights? Pass. For Shilo, Christmas boils down to one simple thing – the gifts under the tree matter more than the tree itself.
“I’m not a tree guy. It is what it is. Just give me the presents bro,” said Shilo with a broad smile.
It’s a refreshingly honest take from someone who grew up in the spotlight. While most families debate whether to get a real or artificial tree, the Sanders household apparently skipped that conversation entirely. Shilo’s approach is pragmatic, if not exactly festive. He knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to admit it.
Growing up as Deion Sanders’ son clearly came with its own set of traditions some conventional, others not so much. At least Shilo got his presents.
Shilo Sanders proves you can take the boy out of the Sanders household, but you can’t make him care about Christmas trees.
