The Staffords have a beautiful family, and if you’ve ever tuned into Kelly Stafford’s podcast, you know her four daughters are usually at the center of the conversation.
Rams QB Matthew Stafford’s wife has always been open about her life as a mom and the chaos of raising four kids.
Recently, she revealed that she once hoped for all boys. Instead, she and the veteran NFL QB were blessed with four girls, and she admits that reality turned out far better than she imagined.
Why Kelly Stafford Wanted Boys
“I wanted all boys… I was meant to be a boy mom, but God knew I shouldn’t be one,” she said. Growing up with older an brother, Kelly often felt like she was the “little brother” instead of a younger sister.
She loved the rugged, messy side of childhood and never cared much for hair or makeup, even meeting Matthew that way. Those experiences shaped how she pictured motherhood. But looking back, Kelly admits that if she had sons, she might have been too tough on them.
“God knew if he gave me a boy, it wouldn’t be good because I would have put so much pressure on that child,” she explained, noting that a son would already face huge expectations, and she might have unintentionally piled on even more.

Matthew Stafford Always Wanted All Girls
Kelly revealed that while she once pictured herself as a boy mom, Matthew had the opposite vision. “I think he was meant to be a girl dad. He always knew he wanted girls. He didn’t want boys,” she shared.
Kelly said she’s even asked him about it directly, and Matthew has stayed firm that he truly wanted daughters. “I’ve sat him down and he says it and still, no one believes him,” Kelly added, noting how perfectly he’s embraced life with four girls.
Matthew Is Protective About His Daughters’ Boy Company
Kelly Stafford admitted that Matthew takes his role as “girl dad” very seriously, especially when it comes to boys. “I am praying for the boys who try and come after these girls because he is already like, who’s that?” she joked.
One moment stood out when she revealed that their third daughter, Hunter, who Kelly describes as a “little tomboy-ish like me,” likes boy company at school.
Matthew immediately grew concerned and asked Kelly, “Why is she just hanging out with the boys?”
Kelly assured him everything was fine since she’d already met the boys’ parents and found them great. She even noted that the kids themselves were “super cute.” Still, Matthew’s protective instincts kicked in right away, showing just how vigilant he is about who’s around his daughters.
It’s clear that while Matthew loves being a girl dad, he’s keeping a close watch on their growing social lives.
