Deion Sanders Gifts CU Player the Fishing Rod Despite Him Not Meeting His Pro Day Goal

Deion Sanders turned a Pro Day bet into a headline after keeping a promise to one of his longtime Colorado players.

During Colorado’s Pro Day in Boulder, Deion Sanders was seen holding a fishing rod while players went through drills, which quickly drew attention online. The reason behind it was later explained by the Colorado head coach himself.

Deion Sanders Keeps Promise To Jeremiah Brown

Deion Sanders had brought the fishing rod to the event with the intention of giving it to Brown if he hit an agreed target in the 40-yard dash.

According to Sanders’ own statement, the deal had been in place for one of his players who had been with him for five years.

“I have a PRIME fishing rod at Pro day today because 1 of my players who’s been with me for 5 years wanted 1 but the deal was he had to run a certain time in the 40 & I was gonna give it to him on the spot,” Sanders wrote.

Brown later ran a 4.85-second 40-yard dash, falling short of the required mark.

Even so, Sanders chose to honor the promise.

“I still love ya and you’re still getting the fishing rods. We Family man!” Sanders added in a follow-up message shared after the drill.

The moment quickly gained traction across social media, especially after images and clips showed Sanders seated on a workout ball with the rod in hand as the drills continued around him.

The story remained centered on the relationship between coach and player. Brown has been part of Sanders’ program since their time at Jackson State before both moved to Colorado, making the gesture part of an ongoing connection built over several seasons.

The fishing rod itself also connects to Sanders’ partnership with Abu Garcia, a brand he has publicly worked with in recent years.

By the end of Colorado’s Pro Day, the focus shifted from the lost bet to Sanders following through on his word, with Brown still set to receive the gift despite missing the target time.
