Deion Sanders recently hosted a special visit at Colorado, welcoming Tremaine Jackson and his staff from Prairie View A&M. The visit focused on exchanging ideas, sharing culture, and discussing football philosophy. Both coaches have strong ties to HBCU football, but their paths had never crossed on the sidelines before this collaboration.
Deion Sanders Praises Tremaine Jackson
During an appearance on Thee Pregame Show, Deion Sanders spoke highly of Jackson and the leadership he brings to HBCU football.
“Authenticity. Realness. Genuineness. Love for kids. And love of people,” Deion Sanders said.
He explained that his decision to reach out came from a deeper place.
“I felt a burning in my spirit. I had to reach out. We had to break bread.”
Deion Sanders also emphasized that recognizing another coach’s talent does not take away from his own.
“I know what I got. I’m not threatened to give another man his roses.”
“That brother is a gift, man,” he added, highlighting Jackson’s impact both on and off the field.
A Shared Mindset Rooted in HBCU Culture
The connection between Deion Sanders and Jackson reflects a shared approach shaped by their HBCU experiences.
“We are cut from the same cloth. He doesn’t care what people say,” Deion Sanders said, noting the potential criticism for Jackson taking the Colorado trip.
Sanders explained that many miss opportunities by worrying about outside opinions.
“When God prompts it in your spirit, the table is already set.”
This mindset helped turn a simple invitation into a two-day experience focused on growth and learning.
Tremaine Jackson Brings HBCU Perspective to Colorado
For Jackson, the visit was an opportunity to learn and expand his leadership while representing HBCU football.
“When he reached out, I was ecstatic. I felt like there was something we could learn,” Jackson said.
He brought 13 staff members, including support personnel, to maximize the experience.
“It’s been a tremendous two days of learning. He really rolled out the red carpet for us.”
The discussions went beyond football to include the business side of college athletics.
“We talked football, we watched football, and we talked about the business side of the game.”
Jackson also shared his responsibility as a mentor for players both on and off the field.
“I’ve got an obligation to speak truth into your life, whether you play for me or not,” he said during a session with Colorado players.
SWAC Champions Represent the Strength of HBCU Football
Prairie View A&M entered the visit as defending SWAC champions, showing the strength of HBCU programs. Sanders noted that Jackson’s influence could extend beyond the conference.
“That brother is going to be elevated real soon,” Sanders said.
As one of the most influential figures in elevating HBCU football visibility, Deion Sanders’ endorsement adds weight to Jackson’s rising profile.
HBCU Impact Continues to Shape College Football
Even though the two coaches never faced each other in the SWAC, their collaboration highlights HBCU football’s growing influence. Deion Sanders’ move from Jackson State to Colorado helped spotlight HBCU programs, and he continues to use that platform to uplift coaches like Jackson who are building their own legacies.
