Shilo Sanders has witnessed firsthand the toll football has taken on his father, Deion Sanders. Over the years, Coach Prime has faced a series of serious health battles that could shake anyone.
He endured toe amputations, a complication stemming from diabetes, and more recently, a tumor that forced the removal of his bladder, a major surgery that left fans and family concerned for his long-term health.
Beyond the surgeries, Deion has had to manage ongoing issues with blood sugar and circulation, making daily life and coaching demands even harder.
To many, these setbacks may seem like unfortunate misfortune, but Shilo Sanders sees a deeper connection. He believes the relentless stress, long hours, and nonstop pressure of coaching at the highest levels played a significant role in accelerating his father’s health struggles, turning the bright spotlight of football into a personal battle.
Shilo Sanders on Coaching Pressure and Deion’s Health
In a recent video, Shilo Sanders was asked if he would consider becoming a head coach, since he’s still young and has playing years ahead.
“I don’t have the patience to coach time,” he replied bluntly. But when reminded that head coaches have staff and support around them, he added, “But you see like Coach Prime, like all these health problems and stuff. His blood just rising.”
He didn’t hold back, explaining the toll the job takes on someone like his father. “If he just chilled, I promise you he’d be the happiest man. He’ll still have his toes.”
Shilo also reflected on the stress that comes with coaching at a high level. “I mean, it’s a stressful job. You know, like yeah, I’m not trying to go bald.”
Joking with anyone doubting the pressure, Shilo Sanders said, “If I ever want to go bald, I’ll coach them, okay?”
Even a legendary figure like Deion Sanders isn’t immune to the health costs of nonstop coaching. For Shilo Sanders, it’s a lesson in balance, reminding fans that success on the field can come with serious off-field consequences.
