Ryan Staub came into the Delaware game locked in and ready, and it showed, so much so that even Shedeur Sanders took notice. After spending two years as Shedeur’s backup, Staub didn’t waste the opportunity when his number was finally called.
He looked sharp, confident, and in full control, a reflection of the time he spent learning behind one of college football’s most talked-about quarterbacks. The moment wasn’t too big for him because he had already spent years preparing for it.
Staub credits much of that growth to Shedeur, saying he learned a lot from the Cleveland Browns’ rookie during their time together at CU.
Shedeur Sanders Reacts to Ryan Staub’s Brilliance
After Ryan Staub’s strong performance against Delaware, Shedeur Sanders showed support on Instagram. He shared a couple of Staub’s photos along with a report from DNVR Buffs that read, “Staub hit ‘The Shedeur’ after his TD🔥🔥.”
The post came after Colorado’s 24–7 win and highlighted Staub’s touchdown celebration, which mirrored Shedeur’s signature move.
Sanders didn’t add any extra commentary, but the post itself said enough. It was a nod of respect from the former starter to his longtime backup, recognizing Staub’s moment and the connection between their time together on the field.
What Staub Learned from Shedeur
Spending two years behind Shedeur Sanders, Ryan Staub didn’t know if he’d ever get a real shot, but he stayed locked in. That patience paid off against Delaware. Staub said his confidence to make key decisions like calling for a Go route and hitting his receiver in stride came from everything he picked up watching Shedeur lead.
When asked what he learned while backing up the now-Cleveland Browns rookie, Staub didn’t hesitate: “Everything.”
He explained further: “Seeing how he manages things at practice, the way he handled the receivers, you know, if someone busted a route, or you know, he was just he was on everything.”
Staub praised Sanders’ attention to detail and presence during practice, noting how much of that rubbed off on him.
“He was the most prepared person out there on the field,” Staub added. “I got to sit behind that and I got to try to replicate that as much as I can.”
Now that Staub has taken the field and shown what he can do, it’s clear the time spent behind Sanders was more than just waiting. It was learning, watching, and getting ready for exactly this moment.
