“I Was Glad They Lost To Georgia Tech”: Jason Whitlock Sharpens His Knife On Deion Sanders After Week 1 Loss

Deion Sanders’ Colorado kicked off the season with a loss to Georgia Tech, and that result quickly drew attention from one of his most outspoken critics.

Jason Whitlock has never been shy about sharing his views on Coach Prime, and this time was no different. In fact, he made it clear he had a strong reaction to the game, and he didn’t hold back when explaining why.

Jason Whitlock Reacts to Deion Sanders’ Week 1 Loss

Right out of the gate, Jason Whitlock admitted that despite trying to give Coach Prime a clean slate, his true feelings couldn’t stay buried. “I said this year I was going to root for Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes. He went through his health crisis this offseason. Well, last night I tried and I failed. I did not root for Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes. I was glad they lost to Georgia Tech.”

Whitlock then rolled a clip of Sanders declaring, “Do not allow my confidence to offend your insecurity. If I could get up and dance, I would dance right now.”

That statement, Whitlock argued, summed up everything he finds wrong with Sanders’ persona. “I’m just. I can’t take Deion Sanders’ arrogance. I can’t take his lack of humility. Deion is a false prophet. He claims a Christian worldview, but he preaches self-confidence at every turn. And that’s not Biblically sound.”

Going further, Whitlock grounded his critique in scripture. “The Bible makes it crystal clear: We should be in a competition for humility. We should have no confidence in our flesh. That’s Philippians 3:3. It’s repeated over and over and over again. All of our confidence should come from obedience to God. Period. End of story.”

He didn’t stop there. Whitlock also took aim at cultural attitudes he believes Sanders embodies: “This whole cultural thing we have going on with black people, that swagger, and confidence, and we got to be confident because the White man doesn’t want us to be confident. The White man isn’t our God. He should not be setting our agenda, our standard. Let God set our agenda and standard. And so, we should be in a constant battle for humility.”

Finally, Whitlock zeroed in on the game itself. After playing a clip of Sanders justifying his late-game timeout strategy, Whitlock said: “This is why, I don’t like Deion Sanders, and I was glad that he horribly mismanaged the clock at the end of the game in hopes that it would humble him, but it did not. He had an excuse for that. He’s wrong. They lost 27 to 20, and I’m pleased.”

For Whitlock, the night wasn’t just about a football loss. It was about seeing Sanders’ bravado collide with failure.
