During the first day of the 2025 NFL Draft, Shedeur Sanders, son of NFL legend Deion Sanders, received extensive television coverage despite not getting picked.
ESPN frequently captured live shots of his elaborately decorated draft room, even when it remained empty. Media also kept showing clips of Shedeur Sanders throughout the NFL Draft, shedding a spotlight on his brand and fashion.
But behind the eye-turning fashion was a designer who almost lost the opportunity to work with the Sanders family.
Indyca Messed Up Deion’s Pants Before the Super Bowl
Indyca Jordan, Shedeur’s designer for the 2025 NFL Draft, met Bucky (Deion Jr.) at Golden D’or Fabrics in Dallas, Texas (now permanently closed). She took that chance to showcase her work to Bucky, who liked it. So they exchanged phone numbers.
Indyca got the opportunity to work for the Sanders family later, when Coach Prime needed some alterations done on his trousers a week before the Super Bowl. Bucky invited her over, and she showed up with all her gear and her brother to help her out. This gave her a chance to also work with Shedeur Sanders for the first time. While sharing her exciting experience, Indyca said:
“I went out there to do alterations for his dad, and I also did alterations for Shedeur as well, and ultimately I feel like that’s how it led me into doing Shedeur’s draft day.”
Sanders needed the work done with precision. So Indyca worked there for 5 days straight. Unfortunately, the pressure to get it done on time got her mixed up.
“On the last day of alterations, I misinterpreted what Coach Prime wanted me to do on his pants. He called me, he was asking what did I do to the pants. So I just quickly apologized and let him know that I could definitely come back and fix those pants.”
To ensure her apology sank, Indyca also texted Bucky and offered to fix the mistake. “I made it there at 7:00 a.m. to fix those, to alter those pants.”
Deion Sanders loved the pants after the second alteration, which made Indyca very happy. “He loved them, he said that they were better than how they were before, and that like really made me feel good,” said Indyca.
Just when she thought she had corrected it all, she went ahead to almost blow out her chance to design Shedeur’s dream draft date fit.
She Almost Blew Her Chance To Design Shedeur’s Dream Fit
At midnight on March 22nd, Indyca hung up a call from a random number, not knowing it was Shedeur. Being on her daughter’s birthday, you can only imagine how engaged she was with the celebration. And at such moments, parents hardly keep tabs on who’s calling or texting. All attention is on making the baby feel loved.
“I received a call and my daughter had picked up the phone. She was still up, she picked up the phone but it was a random number that I didn’t have saved, so I hurry up and hung up the phone and then Shedeur texted and said, ‘This is Shedeur.’ I was like ‘Oh wow let me hurry up and call him back.'”
Fortunately, Shedeur Sanders made efforts to reach Indyca via text. Then the designer called back and they had discussions on how she’d design Shedeur Sanders’ outfit for the NFL Draft day. She showed Shedeur several mockups, which the Colorado quarterback loved, and finally settled on two.
“The idea that he had that how he wanted to remake his dad’s outfit that he wore on draft day: Bomber jacket with the leather pants. But we completely scratched it, and we went with something that was more tailored to him.”
Despite her mess-ups, Indyca loved working for the Sanders. She even encourages people not to give up after making their first mistakes:
“So, even if you make a mistake, you can recover. You can come back even stronger.”
Her Reaction on Seeing Shedeur Not Get Drafted on Day 1
After everything was said and done, she was eager to see her work on the screen, but the situation turned from bad to worse pretty fast, and it was not something she was hoping to see Shedeur in.
“It was kind of bittersweet. It was nice to see my work on TV. But I was so confused as to why they kept showing him so much for his name not to get called, like I’ve never seen my work on TV so much in my life. It was amazing to see, but I still really couldn’t be that excited.”
She then proceeded to say that Shedeur took it like a champ, and he kept hoping for the best even on the second and third days of the draft.
