During rookie minicamp, numerous reports and viral clips circulated online showing Shedeur Sanders in top form, fueling the narrative that he was the front-runner in the quarterback competition. The buzz focused on the players’ height, triggering many to argue that Shedeur Sanders was better since he’s a bit taller than Dillon Gabriel.
As the buzz continues, a professional eye has shared a more critical analysis of the two players. As people argue over who’s better between Shedeur and Dillon, a Browns insider, Mary Kay Cabot, has something totally different to say.
There Were No Clear Winners
Despite the media buzz, veteran Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot shares a different perspective, stating that neither quarterback definitively outperformed the other during rookie minicamp.
Digging into her observation, Cabot says, “What I saw were two quarterbacks that operated efficiently.” Her comments hint that she appreciates both players’ efforts. “They both did a really, really nice job,” adds Cabot.
Cabot goes on to give out her honest opinion, “They’ve been coached well, and I thought they were kind of equal.” Unlike the buzz, Cabot couldn’t find much difference between the talent in Shedeur and that in Dillon. Despite being skilled differently, she believes their skills are equal.
Each Quarterback Showed Strengths in Different Areas
Cabot points out that both Sanders and Gabriel have standout moments, with each excelling in different aspects of the game, making the competition too close to call. She admits coming across mixed reactions on both players, with some people saying they preferred Shedeur to Dillon or vice versa, based on the biased opinions that one was better than the other.
Addressing the buzz, she brings in her unbiased analysis, saying, “There were things to like about both of these guys. I can’t call one a clear-cut winner.” From her observation, both Dillon and Shedeur have unique talents and abilities, which are valuable to the team.
Recognizing their unique abilities, Cabot says, “I thought Dillon was very organized and handled the pre-snap stuff better.” Still, she emphasizes that Shedeur is equally as good in a different area: “I thought Shedeur made a few more dazzling deep completions.”
Cabot adds that both players demonstrated pro-level experience, whereby they weren’t overwhelmed by the movement, showcasing that they have played a lot of football. As such, they put up quite a show with good spin and great revolution fluid on their footwork.
Shedeur’s Height Advantage Isn’t a Major Factor, Says Cabot
While acknowledging that 6-foot-1 Shedeur Sanders has a height advantage over 5-foot-11 Dillon Gabriel, Cabot emphasized that it didn’t significantly impact performance or decision-making during the minicamp. And neither did it carry much weight in their performance.
The height factor is a matter of preference based on preconceived notions, according to Cabot. “People that don’t like a shorter quarterback like a Dillon Gabriel, they would more prefer Shedeur, even though he’s a whole lot bigger. He’s at least a couple of inches taller than Dillon Gabriel,” argues Cabot.
So, while Shedeur Sanders may appear taller than Dillon Gabriel, their performance on the field is considerably at par. This finding clears the notion that Shedeur was the absolute best compared to Dillon based on height.
While football performance triggers a lot of speculation based on players’ physique, skill, and talent is all that matters. Cabot’s observation sheds light on exceptional performance from Shedeur and Dillon during the rookie minicamp, indicating that neither proved to be better than the other. But could these speculations trigger a heated competition in the future? Only time will tell.
