The NFL 2025 Draft wasn’t a merry moment for the Sanders clan. While some may have predicted Shilo to go undrafted, Shedeur Sanders’ drop came as a complete surprise for many. Given his raw talent and dedicated gameplay, Shedeur seemed likely to scoop a top 10 pick, and not the 144th he got.
As this discussion heats up among fans, veterans haven’t been left out. And most recently, a former NFL Wide Receiver, Andrew Hawkins, has shared an interesting theory of how the two Sanders football stars could have made it in the first round of the Draft.
If Shedeur and Shilo Sanders Swapped Personalities
During an episode of The Dan LeBatard Show, Andrew Hawkins said:
“If Shilo Sanders and Shedeur Sanders swapped personalities, they both would’ve been drafted in the first two rounds. Shedeur has a defensive back’s personality, and you can’t have that at the quarterback position.”
What this means is that Shedeur Sanders would have had a very good chance of getting a top selection on the Draft had he adopted Shilo Sanders’ charisma and vocal leadership skills.
Instead, his flashiness in the days leading up to the draft pushed teams away. Most teams and analysts considered him arrogant. While explaining why he would be a top pick in the NFL draft, Shedeur Sanders said:
“I like that I’m able to get to the forefront of everything…I know I’m worthy of doing everything I put my mind to, so I’m always worthy of doing whatever…Dad went through the process himself. So getting guidance and his knowledge of everything is almost like a cheat code.”
Unfortunately, no team was willing to risk having an ‘arrogant’ QB, which got Shedeur Sanders plummeting on the 2025 NFL Draft.
What Shilo Lacked
According to Andrew Hawkins, Shilo Sanders’ personality lacks the traits that a DB generally has, which he may have gotten from his brother, Shedeur.
According to the theory, Shilo had to maintain a confident and flashy personality to convince teams that he was a worthy top pick. Had he had this personality, prospects would have gone for him, with high hopes that he’d deliver consistently.
Also, the safety position requires a player who’s confident enough to shun haters like Shedeur Sanders does. If situations were reversed, and Shilo Sanders had this bold and critical personality, teams would have considered drafting him.
Overall, Shilo Sanders would have acquired a top selection if he had the confidence of his brother, Shedeur Sanders. Shedeur Sanders, on the other hand, would have been drafted in the first two rounds would he had been charismatic and vocal like Shilo Sanders, according to Andrew Hawkins.
Do you think Andrew Hawkins’ theory makes sense?
