The 2025 NFL Draft was an awesome moment for the two-way player, Travis Hunter, who got selected second overall by the Jaguars. The Jaguars actually traded up to pick Travis Hunter in a turn of events where his teammate, Arik Armstead, claims to have had so much fun.
As the reigning Walter Payton Man of the Year, Armstead had the unique privilege to announce his team’s first round draft pick. Long before having to announce Travis’ name during the draft, Armstead had a been keeping tabs with the two-way player.
Arik Armstead Heaps Praises For Travis Hunter
“It was so much fun,” says Armstead. He says that having the chance to announce Travis Hunter as his new team member made him happy.
Furthermore, it was a unique opportunity to have a two-way player brought to his squad. Armstead adds, “And that was the best player in the draft, Travis Hunter. And I was really excited, really ecstatic to actually know that we were drafting him.”
From his reaction, Armstead truly admired Travis Hunter. He also appreciates Travis’ unique two-way playing talent and believes he’s the best player they got from that draft.
Armstead concludes, “It’s going to be an awesome experience, and I think he’s going to add a lot to our team.”
Travis will definitely be a worthy addition to the Jaguars. Armstead recognizes the potential and talent in Travis and is looking forward to playing alongside him.
Arsmtead Knew the Jaguars Would Draft Hunter
Armstead was chilling backstage, taking his time to monitor the draft. “Me thinking we’re at pick five, and I got a little time for to prepare. I’m going over my note cards, trying to make sure I don’t mess nothing up, and then they come in,” explained Armstead. He adds, “And be like, there’s a trade been made. You guys are up.”
So, while he was analysing his notes, without hurry, his team walked in, and he got a hint they had traded up. He was expecting that if they traded up, they would draft Travis.
They executed the trade with the Cleveland Browns to move up from No. 5 to No. 2. That’s how Armstead got the chance to be the first player to welcome Hunter to the Jags.
Armstead Kept Tabs With Travis Hunter For a Long Time
As a veteran defensive lineman, Armstead always has an eye out for special talents that would go big in the NFL. And Travis Hunter was one such player on his radar, which Armstead felt would be a special talent in the pros. Since Travis’ high school days, Armstead had been quite vested in his unique talent.
“I saw him since he was in High School,” Armstead said. “And kinda followed his career and his journey.”
Interestingly, Armstead kept tabs on Travis’ football career because he saw unmatched potential in the two-way player. Now with the draft, Armstead’s prayers have been answered. He even got baffled, witnessing one player getting drafted for two different positions in the first round for the first time.
