“If you perform like you perform in that scrimmage, they going to eat your life,” Deion Sanders snapped at his players just days before Colorado’s season opener against Georgia Tech.
The comment came after a weekend scrimmage that left the head coach visibly frustrated. On the very first offensive possession, the Buffs had to punt, a mistake that set the tone for what Sanders viewed as a sloppy outing.
In a leaked clip, he warned players to be ready for the backlash if they carried that same effort into the season, even telling them they might as well disconnect from social media.
“We got 12 darn days to perfect our craft. 12 days and some of y’all still trick or treating. I know a football player when I see it. I know a coach when I see it, too,” Coach Prime said furiously.
Known for demanding discipline and toughness, Coach Prime wasn’t holding back. With Georgia Tech looming, he made it clear: the standard has to rise, or the Buffs will pay the price under the spotlight.
Former Buff Breaks Down Deion Sanders’ Expectations
Former defensive end Jordan Domineck, who was part of Coach Prime’s 2023 Buffs, understands exactly why Deion Sanders unloaded on his team before the season opener against Georgia Tech.
“I feel like the message is pretty clear, like he has a certain standard that he’s going to live up to,” Domineck explained.
He recalled moments in practice when the group didn’t bring enough energy or grit, and Sanders immediately stopped everything, forcing them to run until the message sank in.
With camp winding down and only one of the final scrimmages left before the first game, Domineck noted the urgency in Sanders’ words. “He understands what it takes, especially coming this close to game time,” he said, stressing that the Georgia Tech matchup requires maximum focus. Sanders expects his players to show dog mentality, with leaders willing to grind every play.
“If he’s not seeing that during practice, he’s not seeing the energy brought… he knows he’s not going to have a great time trying to outperform like he did last year, especially with the talent that he has,” Domineck emphasized. Sanders knows the roster is gifted, but talent means little without consistent effort.
Domineck summed it up simply: “You’re here to work. You’re here to bring it every single day.” And under Coach Prime’s spotlight, there’s no hiding. “The camera’s always on. So, good, bad, or ugly, everybody’s gonna see it. So are you willing to put that on camera every day, or are you trying to come out here and show you’re a dog?”
Jordan Domineck made it clear that Deion Sanders isn’t just demanding effort. He’s demanding accountability, leadership, and a “dog” mentality every day. With the spotlight always on, Sanders expects his players to prove they can meet his standard when it matters most.
