A few days ago, Deion Sanders was spotted rocking a Calgary Stampeders hat, and it instantly caught people off guard, including the players themselves.
The Hall of Famer and Colorado head coach isn’t exactly someone you’d expect to see in CFL gear, so the sight of him repping their merch turned heads fast.
Stampeders QB Reacts to Deion Sanders Rocking His Team Gear
When Deion Sanders was spotted wearing a Calgary Stampeders hat, quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. admitted he had to look twice. “At first I thought it was AI,” Adams said with a laugh. “I’m looking at him like, is that real?”
The CFL star went on to explain how it started to make sense once he realized the connection through Mark, a former Buff, who had shared a story from a recent visit. He added, “And then I thought, wait, Mark went there and I saw Mark’s story, he went there… and then I said, ‘you got 24 hours to… get a hat on him.’”
For Adams and the Stampeders, it wasn’t just a cool shoutout. It was a surreal moment seeing an NFL legend in their merch. “It’s pretty cool to see that, though,” he added, summing up the team’s excitement and disbelief.
Why Deion Sanders Wore a Stampeders Hat
The reason Deion Sanders was spotted rocking a Calgary Stampeders hat goes back to one of his former players. Mark Vassett, a former Colorado team captain who now plays for the Stampeders, gifted the hat to Coach Prime just a few days earlier.
What surprised the Stampeders punter most wasn’t that Sanders accepted it, but that he wore it proudly the entire next day. “We’ve always had quite a close relationship, and he’s respected how I go about things,” Vassett explained. “He’s a great person. He’s hilarious, he’s always fun to be around. He can also be very tough on us.”
When asked how it happened, Vassett shared, “I gave him a couple of days before that. I just said, ‘I got something for you,’ and then the following day he wore it the whole day.”
For Vassett, it was a special moment, adding, “I didn’t really expect him to, but that’s just the kind of guy he is. He loves to support his guys.”
Deion Sanders, wearing the Stampeders hat, wasn’t just a random fashion choice, but a gesture of support for his former captain, Mark Vassett. Although many see Deion as a coach who only supports his former players who make the NFL, but that’s not even half the truth, as Deion keeps cheering on his players in all walks of life. For Vassett, seeing his old coach rep the gear was both surprising and a proud reminder of the bond they share.
